Ideal Girls' College, Akampat is the only government girls' college in the Imphal East District of Manipur, established on 6th December 1970. The college is affiliated to Manipur University, Canchipur and recognized by the University Grants Commission under Section 2f & 12b of the UGC Act 1956. It was accredited by NAAC in 2019. Ideal Girls' College occupies a total land area of 7.5 acre at Akampat, SingjameiKongba Road, with a distance of 5 kilometres from the state capital, Imphal, which can accommodate the necessary infrastructure of curricular and extracurricular activities of girl students and exposed their talents and skill activities. The college fulfils the aspirations of a wide spectrum of educationist and intellectual who had been claiming for a separate college exclusively meant for women. The college has 13 departments in arts and Science streams with adequate teaching blocks and dedicated and experienced well qualified faculties. As a home for empowerment of women, the college has produced University toppers in the degree level examinations, many eminent sports persons state, national and international level and won a number of curricular and extracurricular prizes. Noteworthy features of the college are, along with its well qualified faculties and enough infrastructure, vocational courses, new pedagogical basic Languages & IT course etc, apart from the conventional degree programmes in Arts & Sciences. The college gives free studentship with specific criteria and fee concession to the needy students to make quality education accessible to girls from economically and educationally disadvantaged community. The college provides facilities for students to explore uncharted area of knowledge and think creativity to make a better place for women. The college has well maintained two Auditoriums where seminars, the college functions, indoor games and, meetings are organized regularly. Above these two, the college has two medium size conference halls for organizing literary and academic programmes which make development of the innovative knowledge for both teachers and students.
